I cater to the the shabby chic lifestyle and it has taken on a modern edge for those that aren’t into the ruffles and foo foo and my client list is certainly growing. But the great thing is that there is a place for everyone’s favorite styles!

For surely, I shall go with the latest trend and style but i am very price conscious as well. Perhaps I shall mix 1-2 trends and shall find a cheap solution.

Lets say I chose a style I liked, and I knew it was the one for me. Where would I start? There are so many pieces with in a style, so many options. Where would I start so I can narrow them down and create a well designed room?

I do feel that being unique is a whole statement on your own. You pointed out some very nice and clear decorating tips there! I enjoy reading your blog!
The Modern look feels and seems cold or slightly stiff and uncozy. However, I clearly understand that a modern look is less cluttered and easier to sanitize! Wouldn’t you agree?
Your post is very useful, thank you!

My husband and I bought our home last summer and haven’t really had the money to do much decorating, but we’ve got some really good ideas. We’ll probably go with something French Countryside since we live in an area where a lot of tourists have summer homes.

I like unexpected “things” in our home. I have a georgous antique picture frame w/out a picture in our entry w/a wreath in the center. I have large pictures on the floor w/a plate stand. An old antique outside door leaning against our back fence w/a huge wreath. Just a few of the whimsical things around.

With four children and a limited budget my house is decorated in early disaster. It’s more of a pragmatic approach to decorating, hide the pens, pencils and markers and keep a large supply of paint on hand.

You have to do what you love, if you hate it and it is popular still don’t do it, love it and decorate that way, than you will always love it. Plus the fads go in and out like wood on the wall ugly.

  75. on April 30th, 2009 at 4:32 am

My style will always reflect the place where I’m living in the moment. Being a person that come from 3 different countries and cultures I like to have the style that best fits in every place. When I’m in our house in Switzerland ( in the mountains , little town, lakes and forest around it) we decided to go with the French country style. In Brazil we have our house on the beach and the decoration is very close to the condos on the beach that you can find in Florida. In America we keep the Shabby Chic Style :). Loved the post! Thanks!

I’m a big fan of traditional - I love all that dark wood, leather, and plush materials.

I think it gives a sense of lushness, or maybe extravagance.

  78. on May 12th, 2009 at 8:57 pm

Well Its like this. i can’t get behind any formal style. I just go for a look I like. I kind of mish mash everything and hope for the best. Sometimes it works and other times it… Well lets just say that I must have been trippen… Anyway To me it’s not what you live in but how you live while you are there.
